Madison Lintz is a talented young actress, best known for her role as Sophia Peletier in The Walking Dead. When speaking with her, it’s easy to notice that she’s well-spoken, polite, has a bubbly personality and is just like any other girl when it comes to Taylor Lautner. It was probably the most fun I’ve ever had conducting an interview!
Read on to find out what she liked most about working on the show, who her favorite character is and her reaction to learning the news about Sophia’s death.
I want to start by congratulating you on the barn scene. It the single most emotionally charged scene of the season and you were genuinely unnerving in it. How did you prepare for that scene?
It wasn’t that hard to prepare for. Walking like a zombie, I just had picked up from other people so I didn’t really prepare. I just thought about it and stuff and decided what I was going to do.
Was it creepy to see yourself in zombie makeup?
Yeah and it was kind of gross. Actually not kind of. Really gross.
I was surprised to see Sophia go the way she did because in the comics she’s one of the few characters who is still alive and well. Did you know very far in advance what would happen to your character or was it something they informed you of during season two’s filming?
They informed me three or four months before filming and I guess I thought I was gonna live because of the comics so me finding out I was, Sophia was gonna die, was a shock.
I think all the viewers are with you on the shock. It was very unexpected. Did you go to zombie school or get any pointers from the actors who play the walkers?
No, I didn’t go to zombie school but like I said, from past episodes, I’d just seen zombies and how they act so I picked up from that.
Why do you think Sophia didn’t listen to Rick and stay near the creek? It seemed like she would’ve been pretty safe had she done so.
I don’t think she didn’t listen, I think she misunderstood. She was freaked out by the two zombies almost getting her and she didn’t want to stay in one place, when zombies are everywhere and she’s all alone in the woods. So I guess she misunderstood and was a bit delirious from what just happened.
Are you allowed to watch the show?
Yes, I watch the show regularly.
Probably Daryl, played by Norman Reedus. I love him.
Who was the most fun to work with on set?
Definitely Norman Reedus or Steven Yeun. I love both of them so much. They’re so fun and just crazy like me.
How do your friends react to hearing about your work on such a popular TV show?
Well, I’ve been an actress since I was six so a few of my close friends, like my best friends, I’ve known for a while, just think it’s normal. Every time someone says, “Hey, are you that girl from The Walking Dead?” they’re like, “Yep, she’s in it. She’s Sophia!” Most of them think it’s just normal.
What is your favorite subject in school?
I either like science or lunch. No, I’m just kidding. I like science and math.
I don’t know because she’s in an entirely different world than I am. I’m in a happy world where no zombies are and she’s in a terrible, messed up world with a bunch of zombies everywhere. But, she does look a lot like me in the comics. She has freckles and blonde hair and stuff like that.
Speaking of the comics, Sophia and Carl are pretty close in them. Are you and Chandler Riggs friends as well?
Oh yeah we’re like best friends. We love each other. We just mess around with each other and because we’re the only two kids on set we usually stick together.
What’s your favorite thing about working on The Walking Dead?
Probably portraying my character, Sophia. I think it’s fun to be a whole different person for a day in your job. I think that’s really cool and I love it.
Besides acting, what do you dream of doing?
I wanna work with animals but I don’t want to be a vet because I couldn’t operate on them.
Out of everyone working in Hollywood right now, who would you most like to work with?
Probably, like, Dakota Fanning or Emma Roberts. I like those people. And [laughs] probably Taylor Lautner.
I’m sure a lot of girls would like to work with him.
I think every girl would.
RIP Sophia. We’ll miss you more than Taylor Lautner misses his shirts.
